All these failed passes at girls, it's like I'm back in high school all of a sudden.
So according to this certain someone that I'm especially sweet on, the new sketch is unacceptable. Considering that I'm basing this character directly after her, this is input that I have to take into account. Apparently, I have this tendency to draw girls with dude hair (i.e. no body or volume, completely wrong because she would never do her hair like that, etc.) and since this is my main female lead we're talking about here, it's back to the drawing board I go. In the long run, her opinion will be of the utmost importance because not only is this a facet of my style that stands on shaky ground at best, but she's also noticed that when doing full body poses I consistently draw females packing heat (penises) from the waist down. Thank goodness she caught that in the pre-production phase instead of everyone else snickering when or if it gets released for mass consumption. Love you, babycakes!
Speaking of pre-production, I guess my original plans for getting this off the ground (like most of my plans in general) have taken an unexpected turn. Originally I was going to submit an eight page prologue of this project to the monthly webcomic competition held by ZUDA COMICS. Now, I have done this in the past with less than positive results, but since I do have such high hopes for this one I thought why not take another stab at the bastard? Guess not.
Within the past few months, ZUDA COMICS scrapped their monthly competition due to multiple instances of reported cheating during the contest and the rising trend of douche baggy slander and general hooliganism on their comment boards. I completely agree with ZUDA'S actions since I was part of their contest last year, but the loss of having the opportunity to enter again has left me at a bit of a crossroads in terms of where to go with this project next.
One option is to forget the webcomic format altogether and submit a full graphic novel proposal to IMAGE COMICS. On the one hand, I get closer to the actual goal of having the story actually printed in book form if I decide to go through IMAGE and get past their submissions process. On the other hand, I lose the immediacy of serializing directly through the internet and the potential marketing support of DC COMICS who owns the ZUDA imprint.
Where to go and what to do?
Considering that I have to make some sort of progress on this before the year's end, I certainly do have some shit to chew on.
On a lighter note, JASON BRUBAKER of reMIND fame somehow stumbled upon my little corner of the internet and dropped some kind words in the comments section of a couple of blog posts. I don't know about y'all but that's kinda huge for me. Not only is he a extremely talented artist and writer, his blog is one of the most valuable resources of practical information I will look to during this whole damn process.
So yeah.
JASON FUCKING BRUBAKER.
Dude...
