It wasn't the moving of heavy boxes up a narrow spiral staircase. It wasn't the punishing five and a half hour drive through endless fields and empty valleys. It wasn't the almost ten hours I spent on idle or lost on the freeways during the drive home. It wasn't the grand total of three car accidents I crawled by or the hill that I saw burn before my very eyes. It wasn't any of that.
Driving away from her was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
The coming days may prove to be even harder still.
This only slightly perked up my spirits...
...but not by much.
